HOLY COMMUNION

Its our heart to empower the Church to be the Church right where you are at. We realize that many Christians have never taken communion outside of the context of a Sunday service so we want to provide a resource to aid you in taking communion at home.

Here you go:

{sections below taken from The Power of Communion by Beni Johnson}

Read the following hand out aloud whether alone or with people gathered:

While holding communion in your hands, take a deep breath as you take a moment to posture your heart before the Lord. This intentionality brings us into a place of respect and honor for communion and what it means as we make room in our hearts today for the Spirit of God to transform us.

We take communion to remember the covenant that we have been brought into. Much like a wedding ring reminds those that are married of their union through covenant, the elements that we are about to partake of remind us of what Jesus has done for us. They remind us of salvation, the healing we have in Jesus, the comfort of His presence, the power of the resurrection, and His victorious return!

Let’s take time to examine our hearts before the Lord. Ask yourself if there’s anyone you need to forgive or anyone you’ve been unkind to? Forgive anyone you need to forgive and ask God to forgive you.

Holding the bread in your hands, continue reading:

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat, this is my body.” (Matthew 26:26)

This bread represents Jesus and His body broken. It represents our healing. Do you need healing in our body or emotional healing? Is your spirit crushed and you need Jesus’s healing touch? If you need a miracle, put your hand on your heart. Let this prophetic word from Isaiah sink into your spirit:

But He was wounded for our transgressions,

He was crushed for our wickedness (our sin, injustice, our wrongdoing)

The punishment (required) for our well-being fell on Him,

And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed (Isaiah 53:5 AMP)

We are healed. This is a prophetic depiction of all that Jesus would accomplish-peace, well-being and healing. You are healed!

Let’s take the bread together.

Now take the cup in your hand and continue reading:

And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:27-28)

This cup represents the blood of Jesus, our salvation. Jesus’ blood changed everything for each one of us. Forever. When that stone was rolled away, He rose in victory. We get to participate in that victory and live forever under the New Covenant. You and I are able to go boldly before the throne of Heaven. And we have a savior who intercedes on our behalf. You will never be alone. You will never be found unworthy of His love. By His Blood, we have been saved. We are saved, healed, and delivered.

Let’s take the cup together and celebrate today all that He did for us!

Thank you Lord for what you have done for us, we give you thanks today, In Jesus name Amen.
